March is an ideal time of year to visit the archaeological site of Pompeii, before the hot summer days make the ruins uncomfortable to tour during midday. You can reach Pompeii and Herculaneum easily from Sorrento: take the Circumvesuviana train that stops near the archaeological park.

If Easter falls in late March, you can see one of the traditional Easter processions that have been held for centuries on the Sorrentine Peninsula, a deeply beloved event on the coast.
