From mid-April to mid-October the hydrofoils to Capri fill up easily and there can be long lines at the departure ports. We recommend booking tickets in advance.

Schedules

Ferry routes from Sorrento to Capri and Naples are active all year round. Fewer ferries run in the winter months and the hydrofoil to Naples only runs from Monday to Friday. Ferries to Positano, Amalfi, Salerno, Ischia, and Procida run from April through October and there are more ferries routes to Capri during these months. You need to arrive at the port about 15 minutes before departure to board your ferry.

Travel times for the main routes:
  • Sorrento - Capri: 30 minutes

  • Sorrento - Naples: 50 minutes

  • Sorrento - Positano: 40 minutes

Prices

Prices refer to a single one-way ticket. Children under 3 travel free. Discounts are available for children under 12 and residents of Sorrento traveling to Naples. Discounts for traveling to Capri are reserved for residents of the island.

Luggage

Hand luggage is included in the ferry ticket price. Larger luggage can be transported on the ferry for €2 per bag. Luggage storage is available at the Sorrento port.

Booking

We suggest you pre-purchase your tickets online for travel during the months of July and August, on holiday weekends, and for routes to Capri. If you purchased your tickets online, you'll have to present your voucher at the ferry ticket window to receive your tickets. You can also purchase ferry tickets in advance directly at the port.

How to reach the port

The Sorrento port is “Marina Piccola” and can be reached from the main square, Piazza Tasso, by taking the staircase. It's about a ten-minute walk (downhill when departing and uphill when returning). You can also take the elevator from Villa Comunale or the bus from a number of locations in town and the Circumvesuviana train station.

Embarking cars

The only ferry line from Sorrento that allows you to embark a vehicle is Caremar for Capri. Non-residents are not allowed to bring their vehicles to Capri between April and October.

Parking

There is a parking area at the port of Sorrento, but spaces are limited and you must navigate a steep and winding road to reach it.
Sorrento Parking offers a convenient shuttle service. You leave your car at the lot with an attendant in the center of Sorrento and then you can take the shuttle to the port.

Fuorimura Parking is just a five-minute walk from the centrally located Piazza Tasso. You can park here and then reach the port on foot and come back with the bus, or use their valet service. They also offer a luggage storage service.

In the event of rough seas

Routes may be suspended in the event of rough seas. Hydrofoil routes are suspended before the Caremar ferry routes. Be sure to pay attention to the weather forecast if traveling between October and April, or you may get stuck on Capri!

Information for passengers with reduced mobility

By law, all ferries must be accessible for passengers with reduced mobility. The crew is happy to offer assistance during boarding and disembarking.
